Are your Toxic Friends Lowering Your Self-Esteem?

By Linda on July 1, 2022

Are your Toxic Friends Lowering Your Self-Esteem?

Do you have toxic friends? Are there people in your friendship group that seem to be intent on bringing you down instead of lifting you up? Your toxic friends can be damaging to your health and your self-esteem. Are your Toxic Friends Lowering Your Self-Esteem?

Are your Toxic Friends Lowering Your Self-Esteem?

Want to watch Are your Toxic Friends Lowering Your Self-Esteem?

If you prefer watching videos over reading, I’ve got you covered. You can watch this article below:

Rather want to listen to Are your Toxic Friends Lowering Your Self-Esteem?

If you would rather listen or listen and read along, here is the audio of this article:

How can you tell if a friend is toxic?

😳Do they focus on your weaknesses or bad points, even if it’s “only joking?”
😳Do they criticize your clothes, appearance, choices or actions?
😳Do they let you down, like “forgetting” to show up for dates?
😳Do they borrow money, but don’t pay it back?
😳Do they try and pressure you into doing things when you don’t want to?
😳Do they always talk about themselves and their problems and never about yours?
😳Do they talk up their lives, but are negative or dismissive about yours? Or never even ask how you are?
😳Do you have to make all the organizing for trips, dinners, or even just staying in touch?
😳Are they happy and celebrate your successes? Or do they snipe or criticize?
😳Do they stand you up, even if you organized that vacation, dinner, or party months ago?

If someone is continually telling you that you need to lose weight, or you’ll never get a good job or write that book, they are not your friend.

If they borrow money or your car or your clothes, they are subliminally (and not very subtly) telling you that you’re not worth much at all.

If they treat you like a doormat, sooner or later you’ll come to believe you’re a doormat.

Toxic friends are holding up a distorting mirror

They are showing you a negative reflection that is not you – it’s a part of them. But this reflection can undermine your self-esteem and leave you feeling powerless. You don’t need that in your life.

Friends are supposed to add to your life

Friends are supposed to add to your life, to make you feel good, to be there for you when times are tough, to support you, and celebrate the good times.

Toxic friends continually let you down and undermine you. Bad friendships can affect your physical and mental health, leading to high blood pressure, lower immunity, depression, and anxiety.

Research has shown that supportive friendships can boost your immune system and people with good friends even live longer!

Conclusion to Are your Toxic Friends Lowering Your Self-Esteem?

So, take a look at the so-called friends who don’t make you feel good about yourself and decide whether you want them in your life or not. You can choose to let them fade out of your life, allowing more time to make real friends.

Top Hypnotherapy Apps to Improve Self-Worth

Hypnotherapy is a well-established technique to change patterns of thought and feelings that are no longer serving you. In this article we look at Top Hypnotherapy Apps to Improve Self-Worth

On with Top Hypnotherapy Apps to Improve Self-Worth

Hypnotherapy can help you lose weight, stop smoking, deal with phobias or anxiety and challenge self-doubt or low self-esteem.

Hypnotherapy is based on the power of suggestion and using the unconscious mind to change what may seem like fixed beliefs or states of mind. Contrary to the popular view of hypnosis, you stay in control at all times. You don’t lose consciousness, and you can come out of the hypnotic state at any time.

You may associate hypnotherapy with a therapist or counselor and a swaying pendulum. But you don’t need to be in therapy or to find the right person to work with to benefit from hypnosis. There is a wide range of apps for your smartphone or tablet, and many of them are used by therapists to support work done in the consulting room. Using a hypnosis app can help you take an active role in dealing with the issue or problem that you want to resolve.

There are hypnosis apps that are general (offering a range of options from stress-relief to sleep) or focused on one problem you want to address such as smoking, weight loss or anxiety. There are also apps that will help with relationships or business success.

And of course, if you feel your overall self-worth needs work before you delve into changing things that are negatively impacting your self-dignity, such as weight loss or social anxiety, there are apps for that as well.

Here are six of the most Top Hypnotherapy Apps to Improve Self-Worth:

Build Self-Esteem Hypnosis app

Helps eliminate negative self-talk, change your mindset and naturally improve your self-confidence.

Anxiety Free

Anxiety Free is a free self-hypnosis app developed by a clinician using subliminal messages to deal with anxiety.

Rachael Meadows’ apps

Rachael Meadows has some apps that use hypnosis techniques to deal with issues ranging from sleep and weight loss to leadership and relationships

Sleep Well Hypnosis

This a free app of 25-minute sessions that combine nature sounds, voices, music and what they describe as a ‘powerful hypnotic booster’

Quit Smoking

Now is an award-winning app by Max Kirsten, an English clinical hypnotherapist and appears to have a high success rate.

Harmony Hypnosis Easy Weight Loss

This is part of an app created by Darren Marks, a London-based hypnotherapist. The weight loss app is part of a Body Shape Up program.

Here are some other places to find hypnosis programs:

Hypnosis Bootcamp

Dr. Steve G Jones is a world famous hypnotherapist who works with Dr. Joe Vitale. I’ve done so many of their programs up to date.

Conclusion to Top Hypnotherapy Apps to Improve Self-Worth

As with any program or therapy, it’s best to browse as many options as possible to see what is the best fit for you. One thing to be wary of – some apps are themselves free but will charge for each session.

7 Reasons Why Raising your Self-Worth is Important

7 Reasons Why Raising your Self-Worth is Important

Having a healthy sense of self-worth can change the way you feel about your life. Here are 7 Reasons Why Raising your Self-Worth is Important.

Rather want to watch 7 Reasons Why Raising your Self-Worth is Important on video?

If you’re someone who prefers to watch an article, I’ve got you covered. Here is the video for you:

Want to listen to 7 Reasons Why Raising your Self-Worth is Important?

Let’s go over to the 7 Reasons Why Raising your Self-Worth is Important

Positive self-worth sets you up to have the energy and confidence to be your best you, to take on challenges and seize opportunities when they come up.

Self-worth means you can have your best possible life.

The basis of self-dignity is an honest appraisal of your strengths and weaknesses. That allows you to capitalize on your strengths and to be objective, not defensive about your weaknesses.

It gives you the tools to take control of your life.

Having a happy, successful life and feeling good about yourself is not a matter of luck.

Positive self-worth is a fundamental part of the Law of Attraction – if you feel good about yourself and believe you deserve to be happy or wealthy or have good relationships, you will attract those things into your life.

The experiences we’ve had in our lives, starting from a very early age, alter our self-dignity, either improving it or eroding it.

The good news is we can do something about it if we want to have a stronger self-worth. Although it isn’t always pleasant, it’s well worth the time and effort to raise your self-worth.

Here are some key aspects of the positive role self-worth can have in your life:

Be more satisfied with life

You will be more satisfied with life because you will naturally see the good things in life, rather than focusing on the things that are disappointing.

You won’t be undermining yourself with negative self-talk

The Inner Critic will always be there, but you will know how to keep it in check and how to harness that analytical capability to keep increasing your self-awareness.

Self-knowledge is a key part of good leadership

You are more likely to be successful at work when you have a healthy sense of self. You will be able to deal with problems before they get out of proportion, for example.

Less reliant on other people

You will be less needy, less reliant on other people’s good opinion of you. You will be strong enough in your self-worth not to compare yourself with others.

Stronger relationships

Your relationships will be stronger and more fulfilling because you’ll be building them with honesty and self-knowledge.

Conclusion to 7 Reasons Why Raising your Self-Worth is Important

Raising your self-worth takes time and dedication in realizing that you are worth more than you give yourself credit for. Use these reasons as motivation to build your self-worth.

You are the only person who is with you from the day you are born until the day you die ~Linda Pretorius #quote

Confidence Versus Aggressiveness

By Linda on April 20, 2022

confidence vs aggressiveness

It’s difficult for some of us to draw the line between confidence and aggressiveness – especially when attempting to get ahead at work or to achieve a big win in a competition. But where do we draw the line between confidence versus aggressiveness? In this post, we’ll cover some examples.

confidence vs aggressiveness
This image was created with Canva (aff)

Rather want to watch Confidence versus Aggressiveness on video?

Before we continue, if you would rather watch this post on video, here it is…

Or want to listen to Confidence versus Aggressiveness?

If you would like to listen to this article while you continue with something else, or read along, here is the audio version for you.

Now, let’s move on to Confidence versus Aggressiveness…

Developing an innate sense of sensitivity toward others is one way to keep from stepping over the confidence line and into the aggressiveness arena.

When you express your views and ideas confidently, others admire your stand – but if you take an aggressive stance using threats or others “weapons” of convincing, others will shy away from you and you’ll never convince them of anything – even though it might be the best idea in the world.

We like to make our own decisions based on the information presented in a calm and factual manner rather than dealing with commands or others methods of aggressiveness.

Many times, you may think you’re only being assertive when you actually crossed the line to aggressiveness – and it could be an accident.

But, getting your aggressiveness under control is a big step toward projecting the confident person you want to be.

The mindset you must develop to turn around aggressive tendencies is one which advocates you to have respect for others rather than crushing the opposition (or those who disagree with you) to win. When you help others win, you become a winner also because of the respect and admiration you garner.

Here are a few differences between an aggressive and a confident demeanor:

😧Aggressive: Glaring looks and looking away.
😀Confident: Making eye contact and paying attention to the other person.

😧Aggressive: No flexibility.
😀Confident: Know and express your own views, but considerate of others.

😧Aggressive: Feels and acts superior to others.
😀Confident: Knows your own values and equal to others.

😧Aggressive: Controls others – becomes a control freak when managing others.
😀Confident: Listens to others and helps them achieve goals.

😧Aggressive: Uses body language to intimidate and bully others.
😀Confident: Knows how to present yourself as a confident person through positive body language.

😧Aggressive: Reaches goals by intimidation of others.
😀Confident: Reaches goals by determination and recognizes help from others.

Conclusion to Confidence versus Aggressiveness

A confident person is polite, but firm, when standing up for his values and beliefs and never tramples others to achieve success.

If you consider yourself an aggressive person, be patient with yourself, but get in touch with your sensitivity to others’ feelings and needs.

Want to dig deeper?

If you look at this post on Aggression, you’ll see more of what an aggressive demeanor looks like.

…Sorry to interrupt, but here is the audio and video in case you would rather listen to or watch this article:

I had to interrupt here because I know you would have been upset if you go to the end to find it all the way there at the bottom 🤪, but don’t forget to check out the freebies at the bottom of this page … Let’s move on with the article…

The biggest obstacle that many people face with workplace happiness is low emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is your ability to identify and manage your emotions, as well as those of other people.

How you manage your feelings at work can make all the difference in your career.

Here are some of the top ways that you can put emotional intelligence to work.

Practice Deep and Focused Listening

When you are communicating with other employees, you always want to practice deep and focused listening.

When the other person is speaking, avoid rehearsing your response.

Instead, make it a point to focus your mind and attention on asking clarifying questions to help you better understand what the person is saying.

At the end of the conversation, make sure that you summarize and provide feedback on what you think you heard the individual say.

Then ask if your summary is an accurate portrayal of the conversation.

Start Paying Attention to Body Language

When you’re at work, start noticing the body language or nonverbal communications of those around you.

Pay attention and learn to recognize when body language isn’t consistent with the words that are being spoken.

Start getting used to interpreting body language as a way to understand the complete communication of your colleagues and employees.

With practice, you will get better at recognizing nonverbal signs.

A great book I read and can definitely recommend to you is I Know What You’re Thinking by Lillian Glass (I could actually recommend all her books, they helped me immensely in a lot of different ways)

Avoid Blaming Others

When you always blame others for your misfortunes, you will never be successful in your personal or professional life.

When you get caught up in useless behaviors and emotions, you end up losing precious time and perspective that could help you create a more enjoyable work experience.

If you fill your workday with blame and venting, you are only setting yourself up for even more disappointment and dissatisfaction.

Check Your Attitude

You can increase your emotional intelligence and make your workplace more enjoyable if you check your attitude.

If you go to work with a sour mood, or always see everyone else as wrong, you are the one that will ultimately lose out.

Your attitude is a matter of perspective, and your perspective matters.

If you try telling the story from someone else’s eyes, you’ll be able to start seeing different ways that you can change your plan and increase your emotional intelligence at work.

A book on starting you day right to have a better day that made a massive impact on me is The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

Conclusion to The Top Ways that You Can Put Emotional Intelligence to Work

I had to interrupt here because I know you would have been upset if you go to the end to find it all the way there at the bottom 🤪, but don’t forget to check out the freebies at the bottom of this page … Let’s move on with the article…

While your vision and fresh and creative ideas are critical aspects of success, expanding research shows that emotional intelligence is an incredibly important skill for effective leadership and success.

Here are the top five ways you can boost your emotional intelligence and find success.

Increase Your Self-Awareness

Great leaders make themselves and their personal improvement a lifelong project.

They actively seek out people who will tell them the truth about how they come across to others and areas where they can make improvements.

They look for organizations that will accommodate them or spend money on a coach who will provide them with honest feedback.

Great leaders recognize that they are a work in progress and are always looking for ways to improve.

Develop Your Listening Skills

Good leaders are always aware of how essential listening skills are for success.

They recognize that everyone has the desire to be heard.

Not only do you receive more crucial information when you develop your listening skills, but you are better able to connect with others by picking up meanings and messages through nonverbal cues.

Show a Genuine Interest in Others

Not only do emotionally intelligent people learn the names of everyone that works at their company, but they also make it a point to find out as much about others as possible.

They strive to find out what matters to them, whether it is their family, special interests, or hobbies.

Showing a personal interest in those around you show others that they are valued as people, rather than just cogs in the machine.

Develop Your Ability to Manage Emotions

Developing your ability to manage not only yours but other’s emotions is an important skill to have.

Leaders that possess high emotional intelligence can process information and respond only after they’ve thought about the situation.

Emotionally intelligent people can pick up the underlying feelings behind the words spoken.

Develop a Strong Sense of Appreciation

Great leaders, with high emotional intelligence, are always appreciative and aware that they have others to thank for helping them get to where they are.

One way you can develop more gratitude is to keep a gratitude journal and write down three things you are grateful for every day, to help them maintain a positive attitude and their motivation high throughout the day.

If you struggle with Gratitude, you can sign up for the free 7 Day Gratitude Challenge.

High emotional intelligence is an essential aspect of success.
